The idea of my new logo came while I was swimming @ Mandarin City swimmingpool, Shanghai. It was quite relaxing day and after 0 h of sleep during night decided to v some relaxing day at swimingpool and just chill. And then it came in my mind, very clear, that my name is possible to write with a single line. I asked my very very good friend Santa Gustiņa, who is super talented graphic designer, artist and perfect mom, to make it happen. And she did and came up with even better idea - it can be foldable. Elite Model look Shanghai

Last Wednesday I went to see Elite Model Look final at Shanghai Mercedes-Benz Arena. Kylie was singing ( again, I guess she is coming to Shanghai at least once a year same as D&G) and there were some past including Elite Model Look winners including adorable Fei Fei Sun. The show was a bit on a boring and slow side as it was for TV and they definitely need a better stylist ( sequin mini dresses and sailor outfits - common).

But as for the winner I was quite sure it is going to be Julia Schneider from Sweden and she was. Why? As her catwalk was very masculine and unique and she looks so much as one of today's top models Serbian Australian model Andrej Pejic. Both androgynous, blond, with strong eyebrows. See your self. INVISIBILITY - fashion illustration/ photography project

Last few month I was terribly busy with my job and some creative project I did here in China. Finally I fave time to tell some interesting stories I have been working on.

A while ago I did this photo /fashion illustration / sculptural hairstyle project with my friends and colleagues in crime photographer Yocky Zhang and make up/hair stylist Mandy Wong. All illustrations are hand drawn on top of the photos and paper parts i cut spontaneously during the shoot. I am very happy with result and the fact that these pieces and a few more are exhibited at the moment @ The Villa, Shanghai

Here is the concept:

" Invisibility is the state of an object that cannot be seen. The term is usually used as a fantasy/science fiction term, where objects are literally made unseeable by magical or technological means; however, its effects can also be seen in the real world, particularly in physics and perceptional psychology.

This project is about things visible and not visible, imaginary and real. Things that might exist but might not be visible to everyone..

Think about traditional Chinese medicine Accupuncture where invisible energy is connecting different points in out body.

Traditional Chinese Medicine attributes disease and pathology to perturbations in the metaphysical force known as qi (a word variously translated as "energy", "breath", or "vital energy"'and imbalance of yin and yang, and the Wu Xing (known as the five phases or elements, earth, water, fire, wood and metal).Qi is believed to flow in and around the body in channels called meridians.

Modern practitioners may consider qi to be no more than a metaphor for function, but many proponents consider it to be an actual 'substance'.

We believe there are invisible things , points, lines and coulors and shapes are surrounding us connecting us to the world around us and this is our interpretation of invisible things around us.

Like a spider making an orb web we created images, where invisible things that are connecting our bodies with world surrounding us are brought to life."

Today I attended Vivienne Westwood seminar @ Shanghai Donghua University. She didn't talk much about fashion -more about saving rainforest's and environment and peace, but she has a very youthful soul, great taste and intelligence.

What made me really happy was the fact she was wearing the same vintage frames as me:D Yesterday she opened Shanghai Fashion Week with her collection.

It's been a while.. I was quite busy, but as it's getting colder @ Shanghai, I really hope I will have more time to post more things over there and my new blog http://dailyfashionillustration.blogspot.com/ as I haven't kept my promise to post daily fashion illustration every day ( thanks to China Internet and my not so excellent memory and busy schedule)..

Just got back from Beijing where I met Mr President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers, ministers from Latvia as well visited some fashion magazines ( Like China Vogue) and apparently they liked my portfolio...Huh

My friend and fashion photographer ( i mostly work with here in Shanghai) Yocky Zhang had his solo exhibition @ Beijing so we had basic fun and I left my Iphone in the taxi, so i made one lucky Beijing taxi driver very happy and my self confused and not so super happy..but i believe in karma and stuff so I guess I had to pay for all the good things that lately happened to me...

I have been so busy and non stop sick ( bike accident. flu etc.) so had no time to tell you this - I have been working on new fashion illustration series, using marker and there are actually two directions the first one you see above - more Art Nouveau (oh i love this style so much, I guess my capital city Riga has something to do with it), decorative, outlined. and the second one is more expressive, impressionist style like you see below:

I hope i will finish these fashion illustration series soon, but actually I have a plan to do the large scale paintings as well..

And Kristina Dobele from the band The Briefing is moving to London, so perhaps she should take my old good Birds to London and meet face to face Little Boots?:)) Kristina is an amazing singer and you can see more of her and my Birds from the previous post.

So today I spent all day drawing and all night partying,like a normal human being haha. But the problem is, that I am having Insomnia, since I came back from Europe. Its 6 m in Shanghai, and guess what I just got back from shopping. Bought like 5 different kinds of cheese. And took photos with my phone@ very nice& poor neighbourhood.
So here is what I did today, inspiration comes from Trash-couture and did these illustration for one book, I can hopefully "get in":)

Sometimes some good things happens in Shanghai. Like i was lucky to see futblool finals @ Spanish Expo pavilion ( I had quite late fashion photoshoot styling over there) As Spanish won ( and i got Sangria shower over my head at 5 am), it was the best place in Shanghai that night, really. But now this:
CocoRosie plays Mao Livehouse for their first time ever in Shanghai!!! I ordered my ticket the same moment i found out about it, so u can do the same over there:)
An the best thing - Mao Livehouse is like 5 min walking distance from my house, lucky girl...

Ok, I am still very exited about these costum fashion illustrations I did for very lovely couple from Holland Ineke& Hans. They gave me lot's of freedom and confidence! Thank you very much for this great opportunity! And I really love how these girls fit in this livingroom!
These are large scale fashion illustrations ( approx 80/60cm) , based on some smaller size illustrations I did before from my Splashes series.

A bit of sexy cloth and the city

Today I went over there* :

Great day isn't it?:)

But it wasn't all so great cause one stupid guy on his bike almost killed me, cause he was checking his mobile phone instead of riding his bike.. So we had very basic f**k u exchange. But I was really pissed of. Chinese people can be quite annoying on the street... Ok but now about the good things, so:
*This building is called 1933, located on 29 Shajing Lu, near Haining. It is amazing must see art deco building, which used to be abattoir... Huh, hard to imagine that, but nowadays there are some nice bars, restaurants ( there was one Italian restaurant all in red, really worth a visit) and shops, like American Apparel ( they are moving to Shanghai Times Square in two weeks) where i HAD TO buy this hothothot **Micro-mesh Gloria bodysuit Megan Fox is wearing on the cover of Rolling Stone mag. Actually I went to building 1933 just to buy it, even knowing that I am going to London and AMsterdam next week, where things like these are a bit cheeper then in SHanghai, but I am a girl and I am princess to my self... And I know it was a huge hit already last year, but its never too late to look hot hahah

Oh and Just finished watching Sex and the city 2... Huh nothing special really, but still nice to watch...Sad news are that the girls are getting older and still there are so many things we can experience before we all get super old, ugly and annoying :)))

The first pic is from my previous apartment where had an amazing HUGE desk... now it is a bit smaller BUT i can work on amazing rooftop, ant that is just so much better then any super desk hahaha! I am quite a messy person, but when it comes to my drawing/painting tools I am very organised ( surprise to my self) I have color charts, all kind of brushes and yeah..not enough time...
But when I have time and money , i go to t his super store and o totally insane, cause:
1) It is China and everything is bloody cheap
2) they produce everything, even more than u can imagine/need
3) The quality of inks and markers is justAAAAAAAmazing and you can buy canvas for starting price as love as 5 euro cents..
So my favorite art supply shops in Shanghai are located on Fuzhou Lu, but the best one is Marie's ( manufacturer)

Last week me and my friend photographer Yocky organised this photo session just for fun. The concept was shadows, vintage closing and ghosts. Ghosts where in pairs - teachers, braids and circus artists. They all died in mysterious way and they still cant find peace after death so we see them in Shanghai time after time ...
Shanghai is just so perfect for vintage and mysterious events and shadows... huh so we spent amazing Sunday( !) night with really amazing team in Shanghai and we are really happy with the results. Thanx to Yocky, adorable Mandy, super perfect girl for ghost stories Johanna, my student/model Kelly, our gentleman and super assistant Tim, and Taxi driver/ light artist hahaha

Last summer I had these ( the frame is from wood,OK) And these girls next to me is my friend/colleague/blogger Maris and Coco ( white frames haha):

And this year I have these ( photo quality is quite bad cause its from IPhone and after having one bottle of Absinthe for two OK):

OK I my vision is perfect, I just need some transparent lenses when I am on bike in this dusty city, cause without ones, your eyes get full with shit, really. And wearing sunglasses when its dark is just ridiculous i think...

Oh, I am getting a bit boring with posts about me hahahah maybe cause I am a bit exited about my trip in two weeks: Shanghai-Moscow-Riga- London-Amsterdam-Riga- Shanghai. Europe I miss ya! And yeah, Midsummer fest in Latvia is something you just can't miss!

Latvian Expo pavilion is opening tonight..oh really?!:) Baibao is schocked!

OK, the thing is that Latvian Expo pavilion is officially opening tonight and us, like 30 or so Shanghai Latvian expats were not invited...I think it is just not cool, knowing that we live so far from our country ( such a small number as well) and we present it every day as good as we can here in Shanghai... And then, for the opening of our pavilion we were expecting so proudly we are not invited. I mean, those people who are there are not strangers to us as well... Instead there is that minister of what ever flying in a tube and i find it quite ridiculous and sad... Why so many times i have to be so disappointed about my small country?Like I am planing to go home for a few weeks and Latvian Police stole my bike after accident, so I have to buy new, cause they and the government ( I even wrote to minister about this thing) doesn't give a shit that things like that happens...
Even Iceland who isn't in the best economical situations as well invited all their expats. It is just logical, don't u think? I mean we are not Americans or French who are like thousands over there and nobody can count them...

Anyways, last week I WAS invited to the reception at Dutch Expo pavilion with the presence of Royal Dutch family.

We were like 100 people or so, had some nice time over there, saw the princess and prince, afterwards went to superamazing Dutch modern ballet and yeah, for a day I felt like dutch and it wasn't snobbish or so..

Traveling in a box with new business cards!

Yesterday after pretty nice rooftop party on my super amazing roof terrace I crossed the street sitting in the box with a help of taxi driver hahahah! This can happen only in CHINA! He seriously believed that i am part of the box and after short taxi ride i fell out of the cab pretending that i need another box. He was so supportive. The others taxi drivers didn't stop because according to Mc Donald's stuff my packaging was too big...
Traveling without moving is so much fun seriously!
But OK, back to business- I just made new business cards, cause after official invitation from Dutch Royal family ( somebody please help princess Maxima with her style...those huge hats are so 90ties...) at Expo site, i realised that I have no business cards. What a shame!

Swedish Fashion exhibition in Shanghai

Besides all the craziness I had to go through this weekend like The Peaches concert ( was enough kuku, just was wondring what that guy on the stage was using to make him look so so strange/scared/stoned).

So to prove my self that I am still intelectual human beeing and not just party animal, I spent all finaly sunny Saturday in Shanghai on my bike and had a nice sightseeing and saw some nice exhibitions. So the firts one on my list was ( finaly) fashion exhibition Swedish Fashion - Exploring a New Identity at the River South Art Center in Shanghai.( really love this venue)

Oh I went to Expo site as well, but didn't have camera/phone with me, so I couldnt take any photo, but all i can say - my favoritepavilions so far are UK, Poland and The Netherlands.

Swedish Fashion - Exploring a New Identity at the River South Art Center in Shanghai from April 9 to May 23

The exhibition features the following designers: Ann-Sofie Back, Sandra Backlund, Martin Bergström, Blank, Burfitt, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Helena Hörstedt, Rickard Lindqvist, The Local Firm, Nakkna, Diana Orving, Rodebjer, Göran Sundberg.

There are some nice fashion short movies too.

Furthermore, fashion will play a major role at Sweden's national Expo event at the European Square on May 23, where the Shanghai based choreographer Jin Xing will choreograph a unique fashion performance with outfits from Swedish fashion designers.

No no no I can't go to bed because I just saw something amazing at Garance Dore blog.

Isn't it amazing?: A portrait of Demi Moore on collector edition of Elle Uk ! Wow wow wow! Are they serious - is fashion illustration really coming back? Well it seems so and thats just great for a person like me who simly adores fashion illustration. But this is not the first illustrated cover since the end of Vogue illustrated covers era:

Just last december Vogue Australia had supercool idea to use illustrations of Cate Blanchett done by illustrator David Downton. And they were adorable:

And it seems that Australia is quite friendly to fashion illustration cause there is illustration of Alan Gelati by David Bromley on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Australia May 2010.

Would be just great to own all of these ( or atleast one, I am in China and we dont get nice things like that, ok)
But more than that I want to see my illustration on the cover of the magazine one day...
And Garance Dore is just perfect example, that it's just possible if yo really believe in your dream.

Shanghai fahion week, fashion show by Ann-Sofie Back

Me and my grlz heading to the fashion show..:)
Ok, so the show was like this.. Kind of simple siluettes with huge pin decoration. Last dress( the transparent one with grey grafic lines) was my favorite, and bat shape sunglasses ofcourse. But the rest was a bit on the boring side. I mean- whats so inovative and cool about grey color V necline sweter or transparent shirt?
Music was suicidal and that's allways nice - atleast some drama, and that's so fashion...
Tomorrow is my students graduation fashion show so i better go to bed now...

Hohoho! Great news for all Vogue Italia lovers ( like me) Finaly it is online and even better - its ( also) in english! My Italian after spending just 3 month plus something is not amazing but still i could never resist my self to get as many Vogue Italia editions as possible. Thats the first magazine I always pick at the airport and ask my friends to bring from "Europe"
They have the best covers, the best fashion stories, best mood and photographers ( Paolo Roversi, Steven Meisel, Peter Lindbergh) Love, love, love!
And yeah, not hard to admit - I am dreaming to work for Vogue.it. Hohoho!

Art of Fashion or what i didn't miss in Rotterdam

Ok, I am a bit late with this cause this exhibition at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s “The Art of Fashion: Installing Allusions” exhibition, was open from Sept. 19 through Jan. 10.
